If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing fabulously badly at first

One of the powerful elements of the HypnoBirthing program is the self-practice at home, where partners make the relaxation, breathing, and comfort techniques truly their own.

And yes… sometimes that “practice at home” starts with a few giggles.

A mama recently shared with me, “I have a hard time taking my husband seriously when he’s facilitating relaxation.” Yep, I can definitely relate. When I was first training as a HypnoBirthing educator, I practiced on family and friends—and let’s just say… there was plenty of laughter on both sides before there was anything resembling “serene” or “calm.”

This is completely normal! It’s a new language for both of you—learning how to guide deep relaxation, support calm birth preparation, and create a peaceful birth environment. Some partners jump right in and sound like pros—and that’s wonderful… and rare. For most of us, confidence comes through practice, repetition, and a willingness to be just a little bit silly in the beginning.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly that “fabulously bad” phase passes.
